    Day 1: Arrive in Maun

    You are met at Maun and transferred to Gray’s Eden, a luxury boutique hotel. A member of the PTS team meets you for your vehicle and route briefing.

    Day 2: Maun to Nxai Pan

    Drive to the grasslands and salt flats of Nxai Pan. Oryx, bat-eared foxes and springbok are common here.

    Overnight: South Camp Campsite

    Day 3: Across Nxai Pan to Baines Baobab

    Drive across Nxai Pan to Baines Baobab Campsite. The camp sits among seven large baobab trees and overlooks the Kudiakam Pan salt flats. The pitches are well spread out, so each one feels private.

    Day 4: Nxai Pan to Moremi Game Reserve

    Drive back through Maun and on to Moremi Game Reserve. Campers at South Gate should not miss the game drive around Black Pools.

    Days 5 and 6: Third Bridge, Moremi

    Drive deeper into Moremi and stay two nights at Third Bridge. Red lechwe live here, and with luck you may see the shy sitatunga. You can also take a mokoro trip through the channels.

    Days 7 and 8: Khwai River

    Stay two nights at Sango Safari Camp on the banks of the Khwai River. It is a small tented camp. The rooms are simple, the food is good and the guides are friendly.

    Day 9: Moremi to Savuti

    Drive north into Chobe National Park and the Savuti region. Savuti is the most remote part of the trip. It holds many species in large numbers. The campsite is next to the Savuti Channel and has simple ablution blocks.

    Days 10 and 11: Savuti to Ihaha, Chobe River

    Drive east across northern Chobe to Ihaha Campsite on the banks of the Chobe River. At the right time of year, this is some of the best game viewing in Africa. Elephants are everywhere. The campsite is simple and tidy. The ablution blocks have hot and cold running water.

    Overnight: Ihaha Campsite

    Days 12 and 13: Chobe to Livingstone, Zambia

    Cross the border into Zambia. The Woodlands at Waterberry has four safari tents in a forested garden, 200 m from the main Waterberry Lodge. You can stay at the main lodge instead if you prefer. From here you can take boat trips on the Zambezi River and visit Victoria Falls.

    Overnight: The Woodlands at Waterberry

    Day 14: Departure

    You are transferred to Livingstone Airport in time for your international flight home.

    11-Day Self-Drive Itinerary

    Day 1: Windhoek to the Kalahari Desert

    Drive south from Windhoek to the red dunes of the Kalahari. Join a guided sunset nature drive or relax at the lodge.

    Overnight: Kalahari Anib Lodge

    Days 2 and 3: Kalahari to the Namib Desert

    Drive to the Namib Desert, one of the oldest deserts in the world. Visit Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. Climb Dune 45 at sunrise.

    See the red dunes, the dead camelthorn trees and the desert sunset.

    Overnight: Le Mirage Lodge

    Days 4 and 5: Namib Desert to Swakopmund

    Drive west to Swakopmund on the Atlantic coast. Walk the town to see its German colonial buildings and cafés. Visit Walvis Bay Lagoon for flamingos and other birds.

    Optional activities include dolphin cruises, desert tours and scenic flights.

    Days 6 and 7: Swakopmund to Damaraland

    Drive north to Damaraland. Visit Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with ancient rock engravings. Explore the desert around the lodge and watch the stars at night.

    Day 8: Damaraland to Kaokoland

    Continue north to Opuwo in Kaokoland, a remote region of mountains and valleys. This is Himba country. The Himba are one of the last semi-nomadic peoples in Africa.

    Day 9: Kaokoland to Etosha

    Visit a traditional Himba settlement with a local guide. Learn how the community lives and herds its cattle. Then drive south toward Etosha.

    Day 10: Etosha National Park

    Spend the day on a self-drive game drive in Etosha National Park, Namibia’s main wildlife park. Stop at the waterholes. Look for elephants, lions, rhinos, giraffes and zebras.

    Do a last morning game drive in Etosha. Then drive back to Windhoek for your onward flight.
